The Friends of the Palms-Rancho Park Library meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM. Our next scheduled meeting is Tuesday 5/14/13. We encourage all members of the community to join us in an effort to make our library the best it can be. We hope to see you at our next meeting and here's to a great 2013!

It is with extreme sadness that I post the news about Ray Bradbury's passing. Mr. Bradbury was Palms - Rancho Park's literary treasure for many years. He donated generously of his time to attend several Friends' events and regale us all with his rapier wit and great stories about writing Fahrenheit 451 on the rental typewriters at the UCLA library more than 50 years ago!

A new Mystery Reading Group will be starting next week! Here's your chance to solve a mystery and be part of a great group of fellow mystery lovers! The crime solving begins next Tuesday, 3/20/2012. The mystery under discussion is Hollywood Station by Joseph Wambaugh.

Did you know that we lost another bookstore in our community??!! The Barnes & Noble Store at Westside Pavilion closed its doors on New Year's Eve. The Bodhi Tree Bookshop, in the West Hollywood area, had been a local literary treasure for numerous decades. They, too, closed their doors less than 2 weeks ago!
Please support your local library AND our local bookstores before they ALL disappear. That would be a real travesty.

Our Barnes & Noble Joint Book Fair was lots of fun & enabled us to raise much needed funds for the library.
Our grand prize winner, Naja Johnson, won the Nook Reader!! She was excited. And, we are all jealous.

By the way, we have added a Mystery Book Discussion Group to our already popular Mystery Book Club Author series that has hosted many well celebrated authors. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, 8/17 and we'll be discussing the many mysteries of Janet Evanovich!! Ms. Evanovich is an extremely popular and prolific author, so please feel free to share your insights about Lula, Grandma Mazur, Ranger, Morelli and all the rest of her wacky, but lovable characters!! We anticipate having a really good turnout for this meeting so be sure to join us. We'd love to see you there!
